I had a brilliant idea today. I don't know why I didn't think of this before.
I went to Target and bought a baby monitor so I could sleep in my bed and still listen for my mom.
I'm so excited to get my bed back, and my bedroom. Ryan will take the futon up to his room and use that until I can afford to buy him a real bed.
******
As I was heading out to Target I was reminded by the boxes sitting in front of my garage, that I wanted to take a sleeping bag and pillow to The Corona City Park to see if anyone there might need it.
The sleeping bag zipper is broken and the Salvation Army didn't want to take my boxes of crap. You know it's really crap when the Salvation Army doesn't even want it.
I had an hour until I had to be back home so Ryan could go to school.
I threw the sleeping bag, pillow and a couple of other things in my car and drove over to the park.
I saw a lady sitting at a picnic table eating. There were all kinds of homeless items there, I'm assuming they were various other homeless people's stuff who were off doing something else. I was a little nervous, I didn't want to come off condescending. I asked if if she thought it would be alright if I left the stuff I had here in case anyone could use it.
She said, "Oh my God, I was just praying for a sleeping bag and pillow."
I told her the zipper didn't work on the sleeping bag and she said she just wanted one to use as a blanket.
Her mind was a bit blown, as was mine.I gave her the stuff I had and asked if there was anything else she needed that I might have. She didn't know what to say. She wasn't prepared of a list of things to say. Finally she said, "I could use a little tent, a pup tent."
"A tent? I have a tent. I'll be back with a tent." I let her know I had errands to run so I won't be RIGHT back, but I'll be back with a tent."
I'm going to go through all those things I was going to try to sell at a garage sale and see what she could use. Yes, I could use the money I get from selling those items to pay my bills. Yes, I do need that money. But the chances of me selling that stuff is slim. I'd never been very successful at yard sales. And this stuff will be of good use to someone RIGHT NOW!
I challenge you to go through your closets, cupboards, garage, dressers, etc. If you come across something that you no longer want that can keep someone warm, take it over to the Corona City Park.
If you'd rather, you can drop your stuff at my house and I'll be happy to deliver it to them.
I'm thinking:
Camping Supplies
Socks
Undies
Jackets
If you aren't in my area, think of a place where you see homeless hanging out and take your stuff there. It's been a mild season so far, but it gets REAL COLD at night and it's only going to get colder.
I wish I had the balls to let people come stay in my house.
You're awesome! But, no homies in your house lady! Safety first!
